Gerald Nation has been appointed a Judge of the High Court. 

Justice Nation has been a partner of the firm for over 30 years. This appointment is testament to his incredible knowledge, skill and expertise as well as the regard he is held in by the legal community and his clients.
 
Justice Nation will retire from the partnership on Friday 30 January.  He is the fifth partner of the firm to have been appointed to the High Court direct from the firm; this appointment demonstrates the continuing strength of the Litigation & Dispute Resolution team.

Gerald Nation: Profile
Gerald is an experienced litigator. He has been a valued adviser and advocate in several high-profile cases, including lengthy and complex trials. His standing and experience is recognised by his peers, with work frequently referred to him by other solicitors, and other professionals.

Gerald also has extensive mediation experience, both as an appointed mediator and representing interested parties.

  • Successfully acted for clients in relationship property disputes involving 'trust busting'.
  • Counsel for Christchurch City Council in complex civil litigation over alleged land transfer fraud.
  • Counsel for property owners in High Court and Court of Appeal in dispute over neighbours application to obtain access over their land.
  • Counsel in various courts, including Court of Appeal, for mother on leading New Zealand case over her relocation with children to her country of birth.
  • Mediation for Family Court in relationship property litigation.
  • Senior Counsel for AMI in proceedings where insurance company successfully resisted insurance claim from fire damage to leaky home because of insured’s involvement in arson.
