Nick Kovacevich
Nick is a partner in the national Corporate & Commercial Team.  He is a specialist in mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital investment, and general corporate and commercial law.

Nick has previously worked at a number of leading law firms in London, and prior to that at another leading New Zealand law firm.  He was a Senior Prize Winner in Law at the University of Auckland and is recommended and recognised as a 'next generation lawyer' by The Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2019.  One client describes him as ''a rock star - fast, responsive, very good at what he does - he is passionate about his clients and always gives good advice", whilst another comments that he is "probably the best lawyer in New Zealand for high-growth, emerging companies".

  • Advising the purchaser on the management buyout of Ogilvy New Zealand from WPP.
  • Advising interests associated with Chris Heaslip, the founder of NZX and ASX listed Pushpay, on the sell down of Pushpay shares, which was underwritten by DeutcheCraigs.
  • Advising Euronext listed EssilorLuxottica on its acquisition of Optimed NZ.
  • Acting for the New Zealand Warriors on the sale of the club to an investment consortium made up of the Carlaw Heritage Trust and Autex Industries as part of a competitive bid process.
  • Acting for Pioneer Capital and associated private equity vendors on the sale of Konnect Net to Clanwilliam Group.
  • Advising the Ball & Doggett Group on its acquisition of Aarque Group Limited, New Zealand's leading provider of wide format digital print solutions. The transaction represents a major expansion by Ball & Doggett into the New Zealand market.
  • Acting for the management shareholders on the sale of Smart Environmental to Maui Capital.
  • Acting for Bendon on its merger with Naked Brand Group and listing on the NASDAQ.
  • Acting for Maui Capital on acquisitions and exits, along with joint ventures for portfolio companies.
  • Acting for Unfiltered on its seed capital raising round, which was led by a number of high profile investors including Rob Fyfe, Diane Foreman, Sara Tetro, Sir Eion Edgar, Adrian Burr, Kevin Roberts and Tim Norton.
  • Advising Hotline LP, a private equity and venture capital fund affiliated with Kayne Anderson Capital Advisors (a leading US investment firm), on its Series A investments in Virsae Group and Figured.
  • Advising HW Richardson on its merger with Dynes Transport.
  • Advising Punakaiki Fund on its fully regulated public share offering.
  • Acting for Vivint, a global smart home technology company, on the sale of its New Zealand business to a subsidiary of NYSE listed Tyco.
  • Advising Buy Right Cars Group, a major motor vehicle importer and dealer network, on its sale to NZX listed Turners.
  • Advising SKY TV on its Series A investment in 90 Seconds, a capital raising led by Sequoia Capital. The transaction also included a separate pre-Series A funding by SKY TV via convertible notes.
  • Advising Nestlé on the New Zealand aspects of its US$11 billion acquisition of Pfizer's global infant nutrition business.
  • Advising EnviroWaste on its NZ$501 million sale to HKSE listed Cheung Kong Infrastructure.
  • Advising Cedenco on its acquisition of aquaculture and mussel farming assets from Sealord, including a 50% stake in North Island Mussels Limited (a joint venture with Sanford).
  • Advising Chargifi on a number of equity capital raising rounds, including an investment by Intel Capital and Techstars (the world's number one start-up accelerator).
  • Advising McDonald's in relation to a number of asset acquisitions from franchisees.
  • Advising a consortium of private equity investors on the acquisition of a majority stake in the Samoa Water Company.
  • Advising Snowball Effect, New Zealand's leading crowdfunding and private equity platform, on a number of its equity offers.
  • Advising Fuchs Petroleum on a major oil supply agreement with Shell.
  • Advising Rendeavour on major real estate and infrastructure joint ventures in Nigeria and Ghana.
