Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Minister, Gerry Brownlee, has announced further land zoning due to the earthquakes.

198 of the 401 properties in Southshore West closest to the estuary have been zoned red, due to major lateral spreading suffered along the edge of the estuary in last February’s quake.  The owners of those properties are now eligible to receive a Government offer of purchase.

The remaining 203 properties in Southshore West have been zoned green, in Department of Building and Housing (DBH) Technical Category 3 (TC3). This will allow owners of these properties to begin the rebuilding and repair processes on their land.

In the Port Hills, 421 residential properties have been rezoned green.  There are still a further 1679 houses under review in relation to the risk from rockfall and cliff collapse and the feasibility of addressing those hazards.

Following a review in light of the earthquake on 23 December 2011, land in Parklands East has remained zoned green with a Department of Building and Housing (DBH) Technical Category 3 (TC3).
