We’re very pleased to announce a recent promotion, as well as an exciting new addition to our national legal team.  Congratulations to Michelle Mehlhopt who has been promoted to Special Counsel in the Resource Management Team and welcome to Cecil Hanafin who joins us as a Senior Associate in the Dispute Resolution Team.
 
Michelle specialises in resource management, environmental and local government law.  She has expertise in a wide range of areas, including district and regional planning, resource consents, biosecurity, enforcement and local government strategy and advisory work.  Some of Michelle’s specialist areas include earthquake recovery matters, urban development and land use planning, air quality management, indigenous biodiversity and pest management.  Michelle is also accredited to sit as a commissioner on an RMA hearing panel.

Cecil is an experienced litigation and disputes lawyer in the civil litigation field.  Cecil has a strong focus on insolvency work including personal property claims, security enforcement, and advising companies facing insolvency and corporate distress generally.  She regularly acts for liquidators, receivers, creditors, debtors, directors, shareholders and other parties involved in corporate disputes.  She also frequently instructs and assists barristers (including Queens Counsel) providing extensive file management support and appearing as counsel as needed.
